Guilty Pleasures

Hi. My name is Spencer, and I watch Soap Operas.
Ok, no. Not soap operas as in plural, but just one.
And not even a whole one, just one story line of one soap opera. Is that better?

Meet Luke (Van Hansis, above left). Luke is a young gay guy who came out and everyone is really supportive and okay with it. But he's like the only (out) gay in Oakdale, which leads to his life being pretty lonely. He's fallen "in love" before, but of course his beau was straight as an arrow. He's funny, charming, and while he does stereotypical things he isn't stereotypical in the was that network television usually presents homosexuality; ie butt of the joke, in drag, or overly flamboyant.

Enter Noah (Jake Silbermann, above right). He's a recent transplant to Oakdale. He lands an internship at the TV show working with Luke and Maddie (Luke's really good friend who is a super-adorable girl… more on her later!) Noah is an army brat, so clings to the immediate connection that he and Maddie share over old movies and goals and what not.

At first Luke doesn't know what to feel about the new kid, but in a haphazard moment and a single touch, he falls hopelessly for him. But he's straight, or so we assume from his pursuance of the ever adorable Maddie (pictured above with the boys). Eventually, he even gets Maddie and they become a couple. So Luke gets all weirded out and stops hanging around because it's too hard for him be close to Noah, especially since he's been burned so badly by falling for a straight guy before.

This whole big drama with Gwen and Will happens (okay, so there are two story lines that I like, but I won't get into this one…) and in the course of events Luke tells Noah that he's gay. It's not over-dramatic or overly played out. It just is what it is. Noah reassures Luke that he's straight, but insists on being friends. Luke then tells Noah that he really likes him so it's difficult. The scene was handled really well...

But being an army brat and never having had real friends (and for other insinuated reasons) Noah insists that they stay friends. So Luke makes the effort.

Skip forward a few weeks and Luke, Noah, and Maddie are at a party and decide to go swimming at Luke's grandma's pond. At the last second, Maddie gets a call from her crazy older brother and it ends up just being the boys. After swimming there's some rough play which of course ends in an awkward accidental embrace -- which Maddie walks in on.

Noah, in a typical teenage-sexual-confusion manner gets all freaked out because he OBVIOUSLY isn't sure about his own sexuality (duh) so he gets all crazy and clingy with Maddie and asks her to give up her scholarships to Wellesley. WHICH she does because she's still so shook up about her recent break up with Casey (another long story!).

So Luke gets pissed because she's giving up her dream, and Noah gets all defensive… And apparently today they totally make out!

I love it s'much!

Are you judging me yet??

"are you judging me yet?"

Sweetie that implies that I stopped judging you to begin with.
