With a Z!

When Gypsy revived on Broadway, a friend of mine told me that the only reason he went to see it was because Patti LuPone was starring and he didn't want to miss that piece of Theatrical History...

And he was right -- seeing her live in the role of "Mama Rose" was truly a once in a lifetime performance that we absolutely could not have missed!

Well the first two weeks of December are bringing another iconic leading lady back to the Broadway Stage -- Liza Minelli!

Now, I'm fully aware that the woman is twelve shades of batshit crazy...

And more often than not she is standing in the spotlight as the butt of the joke...

But it's Liza. L-I-Z-A! I am pretty sure that it will be the only chance I have in my lifetime to buy a ticket and see this legend perform live in concert. And that is something that I absolutely will not be missing!
There are many that would say to me..."really? you're spending money on that? wow, what a loser" or "wow, how gay of you"...
And I get it. She falls into the same category as Judy, Joan, and Bette. She's someone that the young gays don't exactly flock to... And while I'm aware that I'm much younger than the majority of her fan base, I can appreciate why they exist. And I can't say anything too bad about those middle-aged queens because, let's be honest, I've been heading that direction since my first viewing of "The Wizard of Oz"... It's only a matter of time before we're all gaying out over a limited engagement concert featuring Idina or Sutton or Kristen or Lea, right??? Ya, that's right... my fandom is on a first name basis... deal with it.
And I'll be there at those concerts too. You can count on it!
But until then?

I'll be holding my breath for her to perform this classic...

I will die. D-I-E!

Who wants to go with me?!?!?

B&B

I'm not much of a "let's go out dancing" kind of person. Hence, I'm not really into Dance Anthems. Like, you won't find any Pussycat Dolls or techno remixes on my iPod. And up until last weekend, you wouldn't find any Beyonce or Britney Spears either...

Then both of these two lovely ladies put out new music -- that I kind of love.

First, because I love her more of the two, is Miss Beyonce.

Honestly, upon first listen, I didn't love "Single Ladies". And then I saw the music video. It was love at first booty shake. It's a simplistic video -- B and two dancers, who are both phenom yet still can't manage to steal her spotlight (like the could... guffaw!)

The dancing in the video is a sort of contemporary-afro-pop inspired boogie that kinda looks odd -- but seriously ya'll, I don't know ANYONE who can move like that. And I know a lot of dancers!

She leaps off of invisible walls!
She gives us Broken Doll!

Her dancers give us LEGS FOR DAYS! I mean, how often do you see actual dance technique in music videos? Not often...

So the whole video is like one continuous shot. And at the end -- close up on B, panting, like she really just sang and dances for four minutes straight. Maybe it's just me, but I think it gives such a stunning edge to this woman's talent. Most of these pop starlet music videos are plastic silicon filled monstrosities. Beyonce is all real. All woman. All Talent.

Britney Spears also made headlines when her song "Womanizer" jumped the Billboards from No. 96 to No. 1

I'm sure there are many out there, like myself, who didn't think she could make a comeback after all the Crazy that has been the last few years... but I love this song. F'reals woke up this morning with it in my head...

The video for Brit's "Womanizer" debuted last Friday night. I was at a friends with a big group, we were all being rowdy and drinking heavily -- but let me tell you -- the whole world STOPPED when it was time for the video! As someone who's not a huge fan of the crazy popper, I was hugely amused. And what's more shocking? Kinda impressed...

The video is hot. No doubt about it. Yes, her dancing kinda lacks... but I kinda don't care... because I am kinda distracted by the male star of the video (see him there in the background? ya, HOT!)
You know what else is impressive? Driving a car with your black patent S&M-esque clad foot... A party trick she picked up from a cellie during one of many rehab stints perhaps?
So yes, the video/song is fantastic. A little ridiculous? Absolutely. But that's why we love her, right? BJ face and all...

Welcome back, Brit!

Hotties abound at "Twilight"...

NYPost's gossip blogger, Jarett Wieselman, proferred the question the other day:

Which leading man of the upcoming blood-sucker series "Twilight" is hottest?

For real? You want us to choose?!

I mean, clearly there is no contest as to who the front-runner is -- Robert Pattinson! Remember him? He played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films...

Cedric = the hot one that got killed at the end of the fourth installment. Remember?!!?

Anyway, Robert is perfectly cast as the statuesque Edward Cullen for the film. In "Twilight" (which seriously, if you haven't read -- do it!!!) he's constantly described as looking like the living statue of a greek god -- the angular features, the body... ya, it's all there :-) I am expecting GREAT things.

So yes, for me, the obvious choice is Robert Pattison, aka Edward Cullen.

But who are the other men in contest for Hottest Blood-Sucker?

Taylor Lautner, who actually isn't a vampire in the film. He's playing Jacob Black -- a superstitious friend of the leading lady.

Jackson Rathbone, the youngest/most recent addition to the Cullen clan. The "youngest brother" of the vampires, as it were...

Kellan Lutz, in the role of Emmett -- Edward's "bear" of a brother. (He might get my second vote for hottest guy in the film....)

And Cam Gigandet, playing the villain, James.

You decide who you think is hottest, and let me know!

On a side note...

Wanna know who else I am really excited to see in this film?

An actress who I recently fell in love with via CBS's "The Ex List" -- Elizabeth Reaser.

Her part is small. She will be playing Esme, Edward's "Mother". Not totally how I pictured the character upon first reading, but now that I know she's been cast -- I can't even imagine anyone different playing the part!

So ya, I'm dying a little in anticipation of this movie. And you all know how I feel about vampires -- I hate them! One of my top 3 fears!

But this book? This series?

Genius. Pick it up. Read it. Love it.

And then, go see this in November!!!!

Sisters

Favorite Weekend Moment:

I'm out in Connecticut on Sunday night, having a conversation with my adorable nephew, Jack.

He's 3, going on 15.

The conversation steers towards family.... and it went something like this:

Jack: Nano, who's your mom?
Me: Who do you think my mom is?
Jack: Um, Grammie!
Me: Yep, that's right. And my dad is...?
Jack: Grandad!
Me: Yep!
Jack: And Mommy is your sister?
Me: Yes, and who else are my sisters?
Jack: Um, Auntie Faith.... and.... Brian?

I can see how in his 3-year old mind that makes sense. We do kind of act like bitchy sisters most of the time :-)

ADORABLNESS FOR EVERYONE!

Happy Tuesday!

Just a Random Smile

With the much anticipated debate happening tonight, and the looming holiday ahead (Halloween! Anyone whose first thought was "Christmas" should be shot) I thought I'd share with you this very funny piece of artwork that kinda made my afternoon...

Sums them all up pretty well, I'd say. Barack is here to save the world, with his Maverick on his side. McCain has to keep reminding us he was in a war, and Palin doesn't have a clue and thinks it's Christmas...

Loves it!

The People You Know

I have a lot of talented friends.

It's really always been like that. When I was young, like in elementary school, my best friend was the super-athletic jocky kid. The same kid in fact that ended up being QB at our 4A high school and eventually going on to play at university.

In high school, my best friends were the star actor/singers/dancers. The best of these, Miss Ashley, was the star of her undergrad program, and got her Masters from Yale. AKA -- the girl is freakin' talented.

And that trend continues in my life -- I get to watch my best friend Scotty on TV like 4 or 5 times a month -- that's hella cool. And then there's my other friend, Natalie...

So, when I met Natalie, I knew the girl could sing. She was performing that night at Curtain Call (which is like the closing act on Musical Mondays at Splash) so right off the bat I got to hear her wail out a little Wicked and Rent. AND she closed her set with Katie Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" which was like my favorite song at the moment. Scotty was friends with her prior to that night, so introduced me...

Cut to a month later. We've hung out a few times. We were out and about and helping friends win the lotteries to RENT and [TOS]. So we're standing there at the RENT lottery, and her name gets called for tickets. Now normally when someones name is called, there's a smattering of golf claps from the crowd, and maybe a couple "whoops" from that person's friends. Well, when Natalie gets called, all of these people were cheering and like whispering as she walked to the front.

Weird...

None of the rest of us were called, so we wait. And wait. And wait. I finally see that she's got this little group standing around her, and I think "oh, she ran into someone she knows..."

Um, not so much.

See, what I didn't know about my friend Nat then is that she's got a little following... She gets stopped regularly from people who are fans... Fans that know her from YouTube.

F'reals. Did you know there were YouTube celebs? Cuz I sure didn't before this!

At first I thought it was hilarious. Like I just couldn't get my head around the reality of being a home-video star (that sounds dirty... lol)

But she's seriously phenomenal. For example, I give you this:

Chills, right? I know...

Anyway, I was just thinking about how glad I am that she and I are friends and thought I'd give her a little shoutout. If you want to listen to more of her wailing her socks off, go here -- more videos and musical samplings... Seriously, if you've got downtime, give her a listen. You won't be disappointed!
